
IM Bagamasbad, NM Clarito Jr. lead UST chessers in IIEE rapid chess tilt on May 1

Manila---International Master (IM) Jose Efren Bagamasbad and National Master (NM) Karlycris Clarito Jr. seek glory as they spearhead an 60-strong invited chess players waging war in the much awaited 2024 (IIEE) Metro Central Labor Day rapid chess tournament on May 1, Wednesday at 4th floor IIEE Bldg. Number 41 Monte de Piedad Street, Cubao, Quezon City.
Bagamasbad, an alumni of University of Santo Tomas and Clarito Jr., who is being heralded as the next big thing in Philippine chess, is Grade 11 student of University of Santo Tomas playing under the guidance of coach Grandmaster elect and International Master Ronald Dableo, wade into battle in this 1 day rapid chess tournament with a time control of seven minutes plus five second increment.
Aside from medals and certificates, the individual champion will earn P5,000, the second will receive P3,000 while the third will pocket P2,000. Fourth to 10th placers will be given medals and certificates as well the team champion.
"With the participation of IM Jose Efren Bagamasbad and NM Karlycris Clarito Jr. we expect a lot of fireworks and more enthralling matches," said Institute Of Integrated Electrical Engineers Of The Philippines (IIEE) National Past President Engr. Allan Anthony Alvarez.
Other invited players vying in the event jointly organized by Alvarez, IIEE Metro Central Chapter President Engr. Paolo Tolentino, IIEE MCC Board of Director Engr. Dionisio Urbina Jr., IIEE MCC Chairman Chess Games Engr. Evartizon Tizon and Engr. Arthur Maurera of Eurolux are Joselito Alejano, Michael Suacillo, Ronald Donasco , Eric Frigillana, Julian Paul Querubin, Chester Concordia , Raynold Sales Roces, Noel E. Miranda, Raul Ochavez, Edmund Daluddung and Jose Villaceran Jr.
Other notable pawn pushers participating are Billy Joe Ereno, Bren Sasot, Michael Palma, Larry Dumadag, Angelo Magnaye, George Manaog, Jonathan Junio, Jherome Dexter Diaz, Seth Heherson Flores, Wilson Pingkay, Samuel Uy Zantua, Jay Sumayang , Meddy Estrella, John Eric Menor, Gunnar Abelido, Normel De Jesus, Vic Alfaro, and Kritz Albelar.
No less than Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) National Past President Engr. Roger Reyes and National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Board of Director Martin "Binky" Gaticales have invited to do the traditional ceremonial moves.-Marlon Bernardino-
