Exciting ACAPI semis matchups unfold

The Top four (4) Chess Teams in each of the Six (6) Divisions in the ongoing 1st President's Cup Association of Chess Amateurs in the Philippines, Inc. (ACAPI 1st Conference 2024) are set to slug-it-out in the upcoming Semi-Finals Matches due to start its Game 1 on April 16, 2024, Tuesday, using the Chess .com Online chess platform.

As reported by ACAPI Tournament Director, NA/Engr. Joel Anthony Hicap, the Quarterfinals Match results for the Senior Division, Surigao Diamond Knights (SDK), a team owned by ACAPI President/Engr. Rey Urbiztondo, trounced San Juan City-Crame-PPKGCC with the score of 26 - 22 to barge into the Semifinals.
The foreign-based Madridejos Knights Chess Club (MKCC) outclassed Valenzuela City-White Knights Chess Club, 36 - 8, while Las Piñas City-TFCC Chess Movers Club (LP-TFCC CMC) subdued Malolos City Chess Club, 27 - 21 and Panabo Knights Chess Club (PKCC) edged out Davao Durianburg Stallions, 26 - 22. The Senior Division Semi-Finals will be a grudge match between Surigao DK and Panabo KCC, and the other match will be between Top Seed Madridejos KCC and Las Piñas City-TFCC CMC.

For the Open Division, Panabo KCC defeated Malolos City CC (98 - 22) to setup a Semis match with Las Piñas City-TFCC CMC, who smashed Tangub City-AMOFCA (118 - 38). While Oroquieta City-AMOFCA won over Misamis Occidental-MEPCA (73 - 51) to face Davao DS, who crushed Valenzuela City-WKCC (97 - 15).

In the Female Division, top-ranked Las Piñas City-TFCC CMC defeated Valenzuela City-WKCC (42-6), Imus City-CEFAG-PPKGCC overpowered Malolos City CC (30 - 6), Davao DS prevailed over Toledo Xignex Trojans (36 - 12) and Laguna-WKCC waylaid Panabo KCC (24 - 16). Thus for the Semis, it will be Las Piñas City-TFCC CMC versus Davao DS and Imus City-CEFAG-PPKGCC against Laguna-WKCC.

For the Youth Division, Panabo KCC prevailed over Toledo XT (30 - 6), Davao DS edged out Valenzuela City-WKCC (25 - 23), Biñan City-UPHSL Team "A" won over Laoag Sunshine City CC (28 - 20), and another Biñan City-UPHSL Team "B" defeated Tangub City "B"-AMOFCA (36 - 8 For these outcomes, Panabo KCC will meet Davao DS in Match 1 Semis while sister-act Biñan City teams "A" & "B" will play Match 2.

Among the QF winners in the Under-12 Division are Tuguegarao City Kidz Chess Club Teams "A" and "C", who defeated Las Piñas City-TFCC CMC (27 - 21) and Valenzuela City-WKCC (32 - 16), respectively. While Laoag City SCC upset Panabo KCC (28 - 16) and Toledo XT hacked out a hard-earned win versus Davao DS (29 - 19). Therefore, it will be another sister-act match between Tuguegarao City KCC teams "A" and "C" for Match 1 Semis, while Laoag City SCC will face-off with Toledo XT on Match 2.

Finally, in the Persons With Disability (PWD) Division, Panabo KCC blanked Valenzuela City-WKCC (32 - 0), Caloocan City-Bagong Silang-PPKGCC demolished Malolos City CC (26 - 6), likewise Imus City-CEFAG-PPKGCC ran over Catanduanes HIT (26 - 6), and Davao DS squeezed past San Juan City-PPKGCC (17 - 15). For the Semis Matchup, it will be Panabo KCC going up against Caloocan City-PPKGCC for Match 1 and Imus City - PPKGCC versus Davao DS on Match 2.

The Semis Match winners after four grueling games in every Division, will advance to the Championship Round, while the losers will vie for the Battle for 3rd Place duels. The Association of Chess Amateurs in the Philippines, Incorporated, better known with its acronym ACAPI in the chess community, had organized this chess event that caters to all various categories for non-titled chess players and enthusiasts.-Marlon Bernardino-
