Goloran rules Mayor Natividad chess tilt

Manila---Seasoned woodpusher Jhulo Goloran, an employee of Datamatics emerged as champion in the Mayor Atty. Christian D. Natividad Classification FIDE Rated Chess Tournament (Category B 1999 Below) held last Sunday, March 24 at the Robinsons Place Malolos in Malolos City, Bulacan.

Goloran, who previously plays for the Manila Indios Bravos in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP), pocketed the P10,000 purse and trophy for ruling the tournament which fielded over 67 woodpushers.

He had a near-perfect campaign after tallying 5.5 points in the six-round Swiss system competition.

Goloran defeated NM Karlycris Clarito Jr., Kate Nicole Ordizo, Clark Kaeron Kwan, Ricardo Batcho and Jeremy Marticio in the first five rounds. He snapped his five-matches winning streak when he had a draw against National Master Mar Aviel Carredo of Dasmariñas City, Cavite in the sixth and final round.

With 5.0 points each, Vince Duane Pascual of Bulacan, Woman National Master Francois Marie Magpily of Makati and Woman National Master Jersey Marticio of Cabuyao settled for a tie for second, third and fourth place.

The fifth to 10th placers were Carredo (4.5 points), Jeremy Marticio (4.5 points), AGM Johann Cedrick Gaddi (4.5 points), Alfredo Balquin Jr. (4.5 points), Adrian de Luna (4.0 poins) and Kwan (4.0 points).

"It's still a good birthday after I won the tournament," said Goloron, who turned 25 last Sunday.

It shall be recalled that Goloran spearheaded Datamatics into over-all champion in the BPO Olympics chess fest last December.
Other member of the Datamatics chess team are IM Eric Labog Jr, Marc Kevin Labog, Don Tyrone de los Santos, Stephen Manzanero , Jay-R Sumagang, team coach John Michael Magpily, team captain John Maurice Delos Santos, assistant coach – Carlo Pelagio, team manager Marvin Borabien and Glory Grace Branzuela.-Marlon Bernardino-
