WORLD Boxing Council (WBC) Lightweight champion David Diaz has scoffed at trainer Freddie Roach?s prediction that Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao would knock him out in the ninth round of their ?Lethal Combination? showdown at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino on June 28.
Speaking to Viva Sports special correspondent Romy Sajer and other Filipino media representatives in from of Wrigley Field and in the shadow of the statue of Chicago legend Ernie Banks, Diaz told Sajer that Roach in not in a position to make such predictions.
Diaz said ?He is not the one fighting in the ring,? before moving on to throw the ceremonial pitch to start the three-game series between baseball?s league leading Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves.
Win or lose in his June 28 showdown with Pacquiao who is seeking a fourth world title had one message to all Filipinos - ?It?s all one and the same. We?re all going to have fun. First thing is we come out okay, both of us, Manny and myself. And it is always a positive message, win or lose.,? even as he thanked the Filipino people for their support.
Sajer reported that Diaz, a diehard Chicago Cubs fan who grew up in the Northside of Chicago, ?Looked fit and healthy and ready to do battle with Pacquiao?with just over two weeks to go.
