The Los Angeles brother teams, the Lakers and the Clippers appeared to be on road warriors node as both won again on the enemy's homecourt today, improving their chances in the post season.
The Lakers defeated the Hornets 124-118 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina marking their third straight road win in as many games, including tough games against the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden and the New York Knicks at the Madison Center Arena.
The Clippers on the other hand, notched their fourth straight victory on the road by fighting off a determined Atlanta Hawks 149-144 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Yesterday, the Clippers survived a tough Miami Heat in Miami so it was a very challenging back to back road assignment for Kawhi Leonard and company.
This lattest Lakers' win brought them a won game behind the Dallas Mavericks for a share of the 8th position in the West. It would have been a tie had the Mavs not won against the Philadelphia 76ers but the 76ers desperately missing ace center Joel Embiid lost again, 118-102. The Lakers host the Denver Nuggets tomorrow.
At 34-15, the Clippers keep within distance of the idle OKC Thunder and the Minnesota Timberwolves which are currently tied for first in the West both with 35-15 win-loss records.
D'Angelo Russell (28) Lebron James (26) and Anthony Davis (26 points plus 15 rebounds) led the Lakers in the win against the Hornets which got 41 points from Miles Bridges and 33 from Brandon Miller.
Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Paul George spearheaded the Clippers with 36 points, 26 points and 18 points respectively. Russell Westbrook, Amos Coffey and Norman Powell contributed 13 points each.
DeAndre Hunter, Trey Young and Dejountey Murray carried the fight for the Hawks with 26, 25 and 21 and they got support from the bench as all of the players fielded scored at least 6 points but the Hawks ran out time with their last ditch rally.
In other scheduled games-
Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Sacramento Kings 136-110. The Cavs (32-16) have tied the idle Milwaukee Bucks (33-17) for 2nd place in the East.
Golden State turned back the New Jersey Nets, 109-98. Stephen Curry (29) and J Kuminga (28) led all scorers.
