The LA Lakers welcomed the return of ace players Lebron James and Anfhony Davis with another road victory, a 113-105 win over the New York Knicks, at the Madison Garden Arena snapping the Knicks winning streak.
But as the Knicks faltered, the Cleveland Cavaliers cintinued with its own winning run scoring a 117-101 road victory over the San Antonio Spurs at the AT@&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
It was the Lakers second straight road win, counting their victory over the powerhoise Boston Celtics at the TD Garden without Lebron and Davis. The win moved the Lakers above .500 with a record of 26-25 bringing them closer to the struggling Dallas Mavericks for the 8th position in the West.
The Mavs lost again 129-117 to the Milwaukee Bucks in their own American Airlines Center Arena.
Though the Knicks lost, still they remained at 3rd in the East behind Boston and Milwaukee and ahead of the Cavaliers and the faltering Philadelpia 76ers which lost again 136-121 at their own Wells Fargo Center Arena obviously missing ace big man Joel Embiid.
As expected Lebron spearheaded the Lakers win scoring 24 points. He was supported by Austin Reeves (22), D’angelo Russell (16), Taurean Prince (16) and Jaden Hayes (10). Though Davis scored just 12 points, he pulled down 18 big rebounds.
For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson and Donte Divicencio again led the production with 36 and 26 respectively. But they can only draw out 12 from J Hart and a pair of 10s from Miles Bridges and P Achiuwa.
Cleveland drew out superlative performances from Donovan Mitchell (36), Evan Mobley (26) and center Jarrett Allen (22) who also pulled down 16 boards. Guard Devin Vassell led the Spurs with 22 but super rookie Victor Wembanyama made his mark with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
In another noteworthy game, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Golden State Warriors 141-134 in an overtime game, laying to waste Stephen Curry's 52 points while saving Trey Young's 33 ponts. The game ended at 123 all in the regulation. The Hawks oitscored the Warriors 18-11 in the extra period.
