The Boston Celtics scored a 129-124 home win over the Indiana Pacers as they welcomed two important players back to action, center Kristaps Porzinghis and guard Tyrese Halliburton respectively.

The victory has implications to the favor of Boston (37-11) which widened its lead in the Eastern Conference over idle Milwaukee Bucks by 4.5 won games and to the detriment of Indiana (27-21) which remained mired in sixth place in the East 10 won games back.

It's not easy to say also that the Celtics benefited more from the return of Porzingis although the impact of his total contribution (17 points, 12 rebounds) to the team effort and victory cannot be denied.

Halliburton also made his impact on the playmaking side by way of 10 team high assists and also on scoring (13 points).

By and large, it remained up to the usual dependable to carry the cause of the teams.

On this aspect, Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown as usual led the Celtics with 30 and 27 points respectively. They got support in addition to Porzingis from Dereck White (24) and Jrue Holiday (17).

The Celtics have won plenty of games this season by overpowering teams with their offense. But they reminded the Pacers they are just as elite on the defensive end as Tatum had two blocks in the final 30 seconds including one against Turner to clinch the win.

For the Pacers, forward Aaron Nesmith topped with 26 points and 12 rebounds, Pascal Siakam scored 23 with 6 rebounds but center Miles Turner could only come up with 5 rebounds while scoring 17. 6-9 Forward with seven footer wingspan Obi Toppin also had more rebounds with 8 while chipping in 11 points. Guards Andrew Nembhard and Buddy Hield contributed 15 and 12 respectively.
