MANILA---International Masters Paulo Bersamina, Jan Emmanuel Garcia and Ricardo de Guzman expect rough sailing in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) rapid chess championship dubbed as San Juan Predators Chairman's Cup where they will be meeting a tough line of competitors on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the Level 1 Digiworld Robinsons Galleria, Ortigas Center in Quezon City.

“It will be a very tough match. I will try my very best to perform well in this event," said Bersamina, who is fresh from an overall fifth place finish in the Philippine National Chess Championship held at the Marikina Community Convention Center last January 7.

The one-day rapid event backed by The Michael Angelo Foundation Inc., organized by HubzStar Chess Center, sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) in cooperation with PCAP Commissioner Atty. Paul Elauria, offers P10,000 and a trophy to the champion. It will coincide with the birthday celebration of San Juan Predators Team Owner and PCAP Chairman Michael Angelo Ong Chua.

"We do this to promote chess at the grassroots level and to discover future chess talents and champions," said Tournament director Coach Hubert Estrella.

Other woodpushers joining the competition are WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda, FIDE Masters Randy Segarra and Narquingden Reyes, NM Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr, Karl Victor Ochoa, Atty. Rodolfo Enrique Rivera, Noel Jay Estacio, Eladio Lim III, Gener Lumanog and Carson, California based Danilo Jorda, among others.
In the kiddies challengers, top seed is Danry Seth Romualdez while second is Caleb Royce Garcia.-Marlon Bernardino-
