Six months into the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, the Philippine Team is already sure of sending at least seven athletes from four sports disciplines and some of them have the chance of winning a medal at the Summer Games.

Pole vaulter EJ Obiena, could have the biggest chance of seizing a medal, possibly a gold, being rated number two in the world and based on his past performances in international competitions.

* * *

Gymnast Carlos Yulo has also prepared adequately after failing in the past tournaments and the two-time world champion trains hard for a tougher field of participants in the Olympics.

Another medal hopeful is boxer Eumir Marcial, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist in the middleweight category who will now campaign in the light heavy division.

“These athletes are capable of bringing us medals from the Olympics. While we are already assured of at least seven qualified athletes, we expect more to qualify in the coming months," said Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Bambol Tolentino as told to Inquirer Sports.

Filipino-Canadian female swimmer and two-time Olympic medalist for Canada Kayla Noelle Sanchez is in a position to grab one of the two mandatory slots for the Philippine Olympic swimming team.

* * *

But the swim star is three-tenths second slower from the Olympic qualifying standard in the 100-meter and 50-m freestyle events for her to compete in Paris.

Sanchez was a silver and bronze women’s relay medalist for Canada during the Tokyo Olympics. She was convinced to join the Philippine swim team and her change of country affiliation was approved by the International Olympic Committee and World Aquatics.

* * *

Sanchez together with six other Filipino swimmers will compete in the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar, from February 2 to 18 and she is expected to achieve the required Olympic standard time.

UConn women's basketball team owns the longest winning streak in college basketball history. The longest streak, which is 111 straight wins, started with a win against Creighton University on November 23, 2014, and ended on March 31, 2017 when a buzzer-beater at the end of overtime caused a 66–64 loss to Mississippi State in the 2017 NCAA Final Four.
