SPORTS FACTS AND FIGURES 14: JONAS SULTAN TO FIGHT IN INOUE-ANCAJAS UNDERCARD

Former world title challenger Jonas “Zorro” Sultan will fight in the undercard of the world title match of former world champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas versus Takuma Inoue for the WBA world bantamweight championship on February 24, 2024, at the Kokugikan Arena in Ryogoku, Tokyo, Japan.

Sultan will exchange blows with Riku Masuda of Hiroshima, Japan in an eight-round bout. Sultan and Masuda were originally scheduled to fight last November 15, 2023, on the undercard of Inoue versus Ancajas. But the fight card was ultimately postponed to February 24, 2024, after Inoue sustained a rib cage injury during training.

The 32-year-old Sultan of Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte, recently won a comeback fight against American Frank Gonzales in an eight-round unanimous decision in Plant City, United States, last September 6.

Sultan lost to British Paul Butler for the WBO interim world bantamweight title held in Liverpool, England, on April 22, 2022. Sultan earned the title shot in the last minute after fellow Filipino Johnriel Casimero was disqualified after getting caught reducing his weight using the sauna which is against the British Boxing Board of Control’s weight-cutting rules.

Sultan was a former WBO intercontinental bantamweight champion winning the title over Puerto Rican Carlos Caraballo by unanimous decision on October 30, 2021 at Madison Square Garden Theater, New York.

Sultan currently has 19 wins with 11 knockouts and six losses. He once challenged Ancajas for the IBF world super flyweight title at that time. The fight took place on May 26, 2018 at the Savemart Center in Fresno, California. Ancajas won the fight by unanimous decision, with scores of 119-109, 117-111 and 119-109.

Sultan faced the former IBF junior-flyweight and flyweight champion John Riel Casimero in an IBF super-flyweight title eliminator bout on September 16, 2017 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City. He won the fight by unanimous decision, with scores of 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113.

The 26-year-old Masuda has a record of 3-1 with three knockouts. Masuda suffered his lone defeat to Seiya Tsutsumi for the Japan Boxing Commission bantamweight title on August 30 last year.

In the 1961-62 NBA season, Wilt Chamberlain had 45 50-plus-point games, 15 60-plus-point games and three 70-plus-point games and in one game he scored 100 points. He averaged 50.4 PPG in that single season.
