Bernie Regalario makes 2nd Universal Chinese Taipei 9-Ball Open Pool Championship quarterfinals

Michael Feliciano (Philippines) versus Bernie Regalario (Philippines)

MANILA---Bernie Regalario, one of the three Filipinos standing in the 2nd Universal Chinese Taipei 9-Ball Open Pool Championship in Ximending, Taipei, Taiwan, is still alive and kicking.

Regalario, fondly called "Li'l Prince" in the pool world, bested Ching Ting Tang of Chinese Taipei, 10-5, on Thursday at the Hulk Billiards Flagship Hall to enter the quarterfinal round.The win kept Regalario’s bid for a title at the start of the Year of the Dragon.

Regalario arranged a duel with countryman Michael Feliciano scheduled on Friday. Feliciano toppled Hui Chan Lu of Chinese Taipei, 10-5.

"I hope I can keep this momentum going," said Regalario.
After getting a bye in the first round, Regalario, one of the top players of Marboys Billiards Club under the guidance of JR Velasco and Marvin Paringit, defeated Guo Pin Wang of Chinese Taipei, 9-6, in the second round, Chang Yu Lung of Chinese-Taipei, 9-6, in the third round, Hsuan Wei Kuo of Chinese-Taipei, 9-1, in the Round-of-32 before beating Ching Ting Tang, 10-5, in the Round-of-16.

Carlo Biado of the Philippines also made it through to the quarterfinals. Biado goes up against World Number 1 and tournament top seed Francisco Sanchez Ruiz of Spain.

AJ Manas of the Philippines failed to move to the next round after bowing to World champ Aloysius Yapp of Singapore in a hill hill battle resulting to a close 10-9 score. Yapp will face Kun Lin Wu of Chinese Taipei in the next round, who brought down Marvin Asis of the Philippines, 10-9.

The champion will win a trophy and a cash prize of US10,000, while the runner-up will receive US5,000 and a trophy as the third and fourth placers will each pocket US 2,500 and trophies.-Marlon Bernardino-
