
Pasig dominates Toledo to rule PCAP 2nd Conference Season 3

MANILA---Pasig City King Pirates annexed its fourth PCAP championship by taking its finals series against the Toledo-Xignex Trojans, 13-8 and 12.5-8.5, in the first and second sets Saturday night, December 9, 2023 virtually held at Chess.com Platform.
Pasig actually drew first blood by beating Toledo, 6-1, in blitz and 7-all standoff in rapid play in the first of the two titles.
WNM Rowelyn Acedo beat WFM Cherry Ann Mejia, IM Cris Ramayrat toppled NM Edmundo Gatus, Jerome Villanueva nipped Bonn Rainauld Tibod, Kevin Arquero subdued IM Kim Steven Yap and IM Eric Labog Jr. crushed NM Allan Pason for the coach Franco Camillo mentored Pasigueños five victories in blitz and a draw by GM Mark Paragua against FM David Elorta and GM Gombosuren Munkhgal against GM Richard Bitoon.
In the second set, Pasig took blitz chess, 6.5-0.5, behind Paragua, Munkhgal, Arquero, IM Eric Labog Jr. and Mark Kevin Labog and a draw by WFM Sherily Cua.
In rapid chess, Toledo bounced back, beating Pasig, 8-6.
The title win is the longest in PCAP history as Pasig took the 2nd and 3rd conference titles of the previous campaign including first of Season 3.
"It's a team effort, our hard work paid off, and we thank God for our latest achievement. We also thank the city government, the city council and Mayor Vico (Sotto) for their full support,” said coach Franco Camillo.
Meanwhile, San Juan Predators defeated Iloilo Kisela Knights, 15.5 - 5.5, in the battle for third.
PCAP, the country’s first play-for-pay league, is headed by PCAP President Atty. Paul Elauria, chairman Michael Angelo Ong Chua, PCAP treasurer Atty. Arnel Batungbakal and Technical Committee chairman Engr. Jojo Buenaventura and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Ayala Land, Buenaviel and PCWorx and sanctioned by the Games and Amusement Board (GAB), headed by Chairman Atty.
