MANILA---13-year-old Jerick Concepcion Faeldonia, a Grade 8 pupil of Arellano University, proved too strong for his rivals in the 14-under category.

In the just-concluded 6th Hubzstar 14-Under Chess Tournament held at Robinsons Galleria, Ortigas last Friday, December 8, 2023, Jerick was undefeated in nine games with seven wins and two draws in a field of 98 players to emerge as champion.

"This was Jerick's first award, after their team, (Arellano University Junior Chess Team) bagged 2nd runner-up in the NCAA Season 99. Thanks to all who supported my son in his chess journey. Thanks also to the organizers of this event," said proud father engr. Ernie Fetisan Faeldonia, founder of España-Manila Chess Club.

Arnel Mahawan Jr. posted 7.5 points to secure second place while Jude Angelo Dableo, James Darren Amaro, David Leonard Azuela, Summer Justine Oncita and Gabriel Ryan Paradero scored 7.0 points each to share third to seventh places.

Rounding up to the top eleven (11) places with 6.5 points each are William Paras (8th), Alec Sy (9th), Almwayne Magpusao (10th) and Shaun Lawrence Poh Leung (11th).
