ARUM SAYS GASOLINE PRICES AFFECTING FIGHT ATTENDANCE

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says the sharp rise in gasoline prices and the ?economic crisis within this country (US)? has affected attendance at the big fights.

Arum made the comment after Kelly Pavlik demolished Gary Lockett at the Boardwalk in Atlantic City before what journalists reported was a disappointing crowd for such an exciting fight card.

Arum noted that both in Atlantic City and Las Vegas the parking lots were empty because ?people can't afford the gas. For a guy to drive here (The Boardwalk) and back, costs $350 at least without tolls without everything. Given that economic situation not only the Pavlik fight, its Pacquiao?s fight in Las Vegas, its Cotto-Margarito its all the fights. Even the concerts? are hurting from diminishing attendance.

He noted that the high priced tickets for the Pavlik-Lockett fight sold so the gate was almost as large as the fight between Pavlik and Jermain Taylor.
