
Arca, Bacojo, Cantela eye strong finish at FIDE World Youth Chess Championship in Montesilvano, Italy

Montesilvano, Italy---FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca, FIDE Master Mark Jay Bacojo and National Master Oscar Joseph Cantela of the Philippines expect a strong finish at the close of the FIDE World Youth Chess Championship on Friday being held at the Pala Dean Martin centro congressi in Montesilvano, Italy.
The 17-year-old Bacojo already tallied six victories, one draw and three loses after ten rounds in the FIDE (World Chess Federation) sanctioned event, organized by Uni Chess headed by GM Roberto Mogranzini.
Bacojo, with 6.5 points is tied with 12 other contenders including his last round opponent FIDE Master Munkhdalai Amilal of Mongolia.
Bacojo was beaten by Chakraborty Mayank of India in 44 moves of Modern Benoni Defense in Round 10 Thursday in the Boys under-18 section.
The 14-year-old Arca drew with CM Kenneth Hobson of England in 60 moves of Caro-Kann Defense to raise his total 6.5 points on account of five wins, three draws and one loss in the Boys under-14 section.
Arca will employ white opposite Aleksey Prokhorov of Russia in the last round on Friday.
National Master Oscar Joseph Cantela bested Lorenzo Fava of Italy to score 5.5 points in the Boys under-16 section. Cantela plays white versus Luciano Ariel Carrizo of Argentina.
Mark Gabriel Usman beat Hungi Yun of South Korea while Charly Jhon Yamson succumbed to Ettore Sassi of Italy.
Usman got 5.5 points while Yamson remained at 3.0 points in the Boys under-14 section.
In the distaff side, Woman National Master Bonjoure Fille Suyamin split the point with Riyanna Mueller of Germany to improve her record 6.0 points while Jirah Floravie Cutiyog outclassed Hanxi (Hancy) Jiang of Canada for her 5.0 points.
In other results of the Girls under-14 section, Anica Shey Dimatangihan yielded to Elena Boaron of Italy so did as Maureinn Leopaopao was beaten by Tzu-Chi Angie Chao of Chinese-Taipei.
Woman National Master Franchesca Largo toppled Alexia-Ioana Hoanca of Romania in the Girls under-18 section while Woman National Master Kaye Lalaine Regidor drew with Izabela Tokarz of Poland in the Girls under-16 section. Largo (5 pts.), Regidor (6 pts.), Suyamin ( 6 pts.), Cutiyog (5 pts.), Dimatangihan (3), Lepaopao (2 pts.).
