
Filipino National Master Oscar Joseph Cantela scores back-to-back wins in FIDE World Youth Chess Championship

Montesilvano, Italy---While FIDE Masters Mark Jay Daños Bacojo and Christian Gian Karlo Tade Arca performed well, National Master Oscar Joseph Cantela scored back-to-back wins in FIDE World Youth Chess Championship on Tuesday being held at the Pala Dean Martin centro congressi in Montesilvano, Italy.
His latest victory was against Ergit Ramaj of Albania.
Cantela improved his output for a total of 4 points in the Boys Under 16 category.
Charly Jhon Yamson (3/4) drew with Radu Stefan Mihaila of Denmark while Mark Gabriel Usman (4/8) was beaten by FM Alex Mvilla Tornero of Spain in the Boys Under 14 category.
In other matches, Woman National Master Francesca Largo (3.5 pt. G18) absorbed her third straight loses against WFM Nurai Sovetbekova of Kyrgyzstan , Woman National Master Kaye Lalaine Regidor (4.5 pt.G16) defeated Ayaulym Kaldarova of Kazakhstan, Woman National Master Bonjoure Fille Suyamin (5.5 pt.G14) outclassed Lara Zagorac of Croatia, Jirah Floravie Cutiyog yielded to Sarah Sima Delich of Switzerland, Anica Shey Dimatangihan (3 pt.G14) bowed to Lila Quinn Field of the USA and Maureinn Lepaopao (2 pt.G14) beat Sofia Macedo Salcedo of Mexico.
The Philippine chess team’s campaign in the FIDE World Youth Chess Championship is backed by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, headed by its chairman and president Prospero “Butch” Pichay Jr., the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.-Marlon Bernardino-
