MANILA---The Philippine chess team is feeling brave and ready to showcase their talents against the world's best chess athletes when the FIDE World Youth Chess Championships gets underway on November 12-25 in Montesilvano, Italy.

“I just think for us, we just wanna be brave and we wanna accept and take these challenges of playing world best athletes. And just give the youth chessers the opportunity to go out there and enjoy the moment. And then whatever comes from that game comes in that game,” said Filipino and United States chess master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr., the delegation head who is also a part of the coaching staff that includes Woman FIDE Master Shania Mae Mendoza and Ederwin Estavillo.

“But we truly believe that they can get something out of this game and get a good result. But we are definitely looking forward to it," added Bernardino, a veteran sportswriter and radio commentator who is also an online Arena Grandmaster, a chess coach, chess teacher and FIDE national instructor.

FIDE Master Mark Jay Bacojo will spread the PH chess team that includes FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca, National Master Oscar Joseph Cantela, Woman National Master Bonjoure Fille Suyamin, Woman National Master Kaye Lalaine Regidor and Woman National Master Franchesca Largo.

Also joining the PH chess team backed up by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) are Jirah Floraive Cutiyog, Maureiin Lepaopao, Anica Shey Dimatangihan, Mark Gabriel Usman and Charly Jhon Yamson.-Marlon Bernardino-
