MANILA---The Cavite Spartans showed no mercy and pounced on NegOr SAGAR Sports (Negros Oriental) and Davao Durianburg Stallions in another scheduled game day of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines’s (PCAP) second conference online tournament dubbed as Super Grandmaster Wesley So Cup held at Chess.com Platform on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

The Cavite Spartans took down NegOr SAGAR Sports, 18-3, and decimated Davao, 13.5-7.5.

Cavite banked on their signature hot start in the first six playing boards against NegOr SAGAR Sports and immediately clinched a 6-1 lead in the blitz portion.

Anatoly Pascua toppled Wilmier Barron, FIDE Master Jim Dean outclassed National Master Rolzon Roullo, Melizah Ruth Carreon crushed Cecille Reginaldo, Renie Malupa subdued Junaico Segismar, Ricardo Batcho outpointed Patrick Chua and Antonio Almodal III edged Drigo Ringo Teves.

Alfredo Dumalag provided the full point for NegOr SAGAR Sports after beating FIDE Master Carlos Edgardo Garma.

After a good start in the blitz category, the Cavite Spartans wiped out NegOr SAGAR Sports in the rapid category, 10-2.

Jovert Valenzuela smashed Roullo, Woman International Master Bernadette Galas waylaid Reginaldo, Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. outplayed Dumalag, Kevin Mirano trounced Segismar, Alexis Emil Maribao outwitted Chua and Voltaire Marc Paraguya dealt Teves.

Barron, on the other hand, upset Dean for NegOr SAGAR Sports full point in the rapid play.

Meanwhile, against Davao, the Cavite Spartans went beast mode and grabbed all the leads in both the blitz and the rapid categories.

Batcho, Malupa and Almodal III defeated Ariel Nino Aton, Reynaldo De Guzman and Irwin Aton, respectively.

NM Raymond Salcedo drew with Aglipay Oberio and so did Carreon versus Trina Mhariz Temple and Garma versus National Master Jonathan Tan.

Arnel Nino Aton surprised Pascua for the full point of Davao in the blitz event and kept the game close, 4.5-2.5.

Cavite then took full control of the game in the rapid category, 9-5, after a heroic win of National Master Rommel Ganzon, Antonio, Maribao and Mirano while Valenzuela drew his game.

“Both matches against NegOr SAGAR Sports (Negros Oriental) and Davao Durianburg Stallions were (really) tough. Our winning margin in blitz became a big factor to have twin victories (tonight). I really appreciate the players for their character and determination to win”. said Mr. Joel Delfin, part of the coaching staff of the Cavite Spartans.

Cavite will have the chance to extend their winning streak to eight when they face Toledo and Iloilo on November 4, 2023.

Meanwhile, Pasig City King Pirates remain on top with a 14-0 slate followed by the San Juan Predators who hold a 12-2 win-loss record and Cavite Spartans who notch 11-3 slate.

Manila Indios Bravos, Laguna-PECA and Isabela Knights of Alexander were tied at 4th to 6th spots with 8-6 win-loss record, Quezon City Zimba's Tribe at solo 7th spots with 6-8 win-loss record while Cagayan Kings and Rizal Batch Towers at 8th and 9th spots with 4-10 win-loss record.
