
PNP chess club opens registration for chess tournament set Oct.28

THE Philippine National Police-PNP Chess Club has opened registration for the upcoming Police Colonel Lawrence Reloj Chess Cup, which is set to take place at Robinsons Galleria, Edsa corner Ortigas Avenue, Quezon City on October 28.
The tournament is open to 2000 Rating and below as of October 1, 2023, Philippine Local Rating.
According to Sportsman Renato "Kuya Buboy" Abalos, the champion will pocket P6,000 plus trophy while 2nd to 5th place will receive P3,000, P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000. There is P500 each for 6th to 10th place. There are also category awards as top kiddie, top junior, top lady, top senior (50-59 yrs.old), top senior 60 and above, top unrated, top executive, top kiddie (12 yrs old and below) and top junior ( 18 yrs old and below), and is aimed at promoting the game of chess as well as encouraging the youth to participate in physical activities.
The tournament is set to be a fun and exciting event for young chess enthusiasts, with different age competing against each other for the top prize. It is also a great opportunity for youth to showcase their chess skills and sportsmanship.
Meanwhile, Rising Chess Unlimited led by National Chess Federation of the Philippines Board of Director Rey Cris Urbiztondo is supporting the Antonio "Bolok" Santos Memorial Open Rapid Chess Tournament on October 28 at the 3rd floor (rooftop), Barangka Barangay Hall, Marikina City.
With a total pot prizes of P45,000 of which P10,000 will be won by the champion according to National Arbiter Ranier Pascual. The late sports philanthropist Antonio "Bolok" Santos is the father of former NCFP Board of Director and former Marikina City Councilor Thaddeus Santos.-Marlon Bernardino-
