FIDE Master Austin Jacob Literatus emerged as the champion of the Rising Chess Unlimited tournament held in General Santos City. He garnered an impressive 6.5 points out of seven rounds, with only one draw against Elias Banguiran.

IM Hamed Nouri came in second place with 6 points, losing only to the champion, FM Literatus. FM Christian Gian Carlo Arca also scored 6 points, securing the third position, despite suffering a defeat against the tournament's champion.

Roger James Cabanyog, a local pride of Sto Niño South Cotabato, clinched the fourth position with 6 points, losing a match to Jayson Salubre. Elias Banguiran finished fifth with 5.5 points, losing to IM Hamed Nouri and drawing with FM Literatus.

Jayson Salubre, Andre Miguel Jorgio, Charles John Fiel, and Orly Ortega rounded out the top nine, each scoring 5 points.

Special recognitions went to Andre Lei Alcantara as the Top Kiddies, Jasphyr Lloyd Fiel as the Top Junior, and Jenaica Julom as the Top Female player.

The tournament, sponsored by AGM/NM Rey Cris Urbiztundo, a NCFP Board of Director and NA Mark John Centillo, saw participation from 74 players all over the Philippines. Urbiztundo is one of the most active and respected tournament organizers in the country.

As the champion, FM Literatus will proceed to compete in Ozamiz city from November 10-12, with all expenses paid by Czen Corporation and Biyaherong Arbiter.

The Rising Chess Unlimited tournament was a warm-up event for the upcoming largest tournament of the year in Ozamiz City, offering a guaranteed prize pool of 1 million pesos.

None of this would have been possible without the expertise of the technical officials. The team comprised Chief Arbiter FA Margie Narcila, Deputy Arbiter Alex Requiz, and Arbiters Roy Caceres, Rex Pingkian, Rodz Camatoy, and Jenery Julom.-Marlon Bernardino-
