International Boxing Federation flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire is back in the gym training and helping elder brother Glenn Donaire prepare for his IBF light flyweight title fight against champion Ulises ?Archie? Solis in Vera Cruz, Mexico on July 12.
Donaire told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that his brother Glenn was ?doing good? and that he had sparred with him and realized that ?this time he is a lot stronger this time.?
Donaire said he was confident about his 28 year old brother?s chances.
Glenn Donaire has a record of 17-3-1 with 9 knockouts. He had a long layoff after losing a sixth round technical decision to then flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan on October 7, 2006. Donaire accused Darchinyan of using his elbow to damage his jaw forcing him to quit. Young brother Nonito avenged the defeat with a spectacular fifth round stoppage of the cocky Australian on July 7, 2007.
Glenn Donaire came back on August 22, 2008 and scored an impressive unanimous eight round decision over Jose Alburquerque and showed no signs of the 21 month layoff.
Solis, the 26 year old Mexican with a record of 26-1-2 with 20 knockouts is strong and scored TKO victories over top-rated Filipinos last year. Solis scored an eighth round TKO over Rodel Mayol on August 4, 2007 and then took one round longer to score a ninth round TKO over veteran Bert Batawang.
