
Ochoa rules Kuya Buboy Abalos Limbas Mandaragit Eagles Club Chess Tournament

MANILA---Kyle Emmanuel Ochoa of Malolos City, Bulacan displayed his brilliant form to claim victory in the Kuya Buboy Abalos Limbas Mandaragit Eagles Club Chess Tournament at the Robinsons Galleria, Edsa corner Ortigas Avenue, Quezon City on Sunday, October 8, 2023.
Ochoa scored a perfect 7.0 points to bring home PHP5,000 cash prize plus trophy and gift certificate in the 1-day rapid tournament, sponsored by Mr. Renato "Buboy" Abalos, organized by PNP chess club in cooperation with NCFP Board of Director Martin "Binky" Gaticales.
He defeated Sofia Angelique Alcala in the first round, Macwaine A. Molina (2nd round), Jerry Tolentino (3rd round), Joe Andy Calivoso (4th round), Mark Louie Velasco (5th round), Abraham Bayron (6th round) and Jerome Villanueva (7th round).
"I’m just so happy to have won these tournaments and it feels really, really good!," said Ochoa.
Nelson Busa Jr., John Lee Antonio and Rodolfo "Jun" Panopio Jr. finished the tournament with similar 6.0 points while Jhulo Goloran and Jerome Villanueva had identical 5.5 points.
"This is indeed a big help for the promotion of chess. I would like to really thank my good friend, PNP Chess Coach Mr. Jomar "Joms" Mendoza Pascua for promoting this event," said Mr. Renato "Kuya Buboy" Abalos.
