Army woodpushers rule Gentri chess tourney

MANILA---National Master Carlo Magno Rosaupan reigned supreme in the blitz chess tournament over the weekend in General Trias City, Cavite which attracted 35 woodpushers.

Rosaupan, a member of the multi-titled Philippine Army Chess Team, bagged the P1,500 top prize of the 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment time control format organized by Kevin Cantela being held coincide the birthday celebration of National Master Oscar Joseph Cantela after registering the highest output of 6.0 points in seven outings.

The Trece Martires City based Rosaupan, one of the top players of PCAP's Cavite Spartans/BNU chess team took the title with superior tie break over fellow six pointers National Master Dale Bernardo of Angeles City, Pampanga.

Luffe Magdalaga of General Trias City came solo third with 5.5 points.

Bernardo received P1,000 while Magdalaga got P700 for his efforts.

In the seventh and final round, Rosaupan subdued Istraelito Rilloraza of Las Pinas City, Bernardo beat Sherwin Tiu of Manila while Magdalaga defeated Aaron Cantela of General Trias.
Adrian Aragones of Bacoor topped the Under-16 class while Shan Troy Pabico of Dasmarinas won the Under-12 category.-Marlon Bernardino-
