IM Concio rules GMG online chessfest

MANILA---INTERNATIONAL Master (IM) Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmariñas City had to bring down the big guns to reign supreme in the 20th GMG Chess Online Blitz Tournament held last August 31 via the lichess.com virtual platform.

A consistent winner in online weekly chess tournaments, Concio, one of the top players of the star-studded Dasmariñas Chess Academy of Mayor Jenny Barzaga, Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and national coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas, tallied 77 Arena points to rule the online tournament (three minutes play to finish) sponsored by Thailand based coach National Master Gerald Ferriol.

Chester Neil Reyes of Rodriguez, Rizal came second with 69 Arena points followed by third placer Anatoly Pascua of Manila and fourth placer National Master Mark Jay Bacojo of Dasmariñas City who totes 53 Arena points each.

Rounding up the top 21 winners were Cyril Telesforo of Iloilo City (5th), Christian Mendoza of Antipolo City (6th), National Master Julius Gonzales of Marikina City (7th), Lee Roi Palma of Manila (8th), Nguyễn Anh Huy of Vietnam (9th) and Fide Master Noel Dela Cruz of Makati City (10th), National Master Jake Dela Cruz of Cabanatuan City (11th), Vladimir Gonzales of Los Baños (12th), Carl Daluz of Sorsogon City (13th), Junmark Baldesimo of Davao City (14th), Fide Master Christian Mark Daluz of Sorsogon City (15th), John Laurence Donguines of Pasig City (16th), Kobi Bryant Segura of Davao City (17th), Miguel Vicente of Batangas City (18th), Sumer Justin Oncita of Pasig City (19th place), Emcel Jules Gadut of Candon City (20th) and John Gabriel Tabligan of Cavite (21st).

Adjudged category winners are NM Jonathan Tan (Top Senior), Vladimir Gonzales (Top PWD), Rohanisah Buto (Top Girl/Women), Sumer Justin Oncita (Top U16) and Vincent Brimbuela (Top GMG/Chess Sharer).-Marlon Bernardino-
