
Fernandez and partner are Philippines/Novelty Speed champs of 29th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival - Communities Meet

MANILA---Representing Philippines/Novelty Speed, Arena Grandmaster Dandel Fernandez and his partner Nelman Lagutin emerged as team champions of the 29th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival - Communities.
The meet was held at Radisson Blu Hotel & Resort Corniche in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates last August 21.
Fernandez and his partner Lagutin scored 10 points with 10 tiebreaks.
The Dubai based Fernandez, a former NCR SCUAA top player from Technological University of the Philippines-Manila, is also a certified National Master in the Philippines.
Fernandez, an employee at the Saudi German Hospital in UAE, won numerous chess tournament in UAE.
The Dubai based Lagutin, on his part, is the top coach of Signature Chess club and a former mainstay of University of the East chess team.
"We would like to dedicate our victory to God, to our company, as well to our countryman. It's an honor to represent our country," said Fernandez.
Meanwhile, ChessLab spearheaded by Fide Master Rustum Tolentino and Bryle Arellano, finished second with 10 markers.
The pair of Grandmaster Viorel Iordachescu and Bogdan Garbea of Romania, the tandem of Noli Delloro and Reggie Mel Santiago of Boss-Maestro, the dynamic duo of Marvin Marcos and Francis Erwin Dimarucut of Boknoy finished third to fifth, respectively with identical 9.0 points apiece.
Rounding out the top 10 were sixth Atlas lions, seventh Damagan Batelyones Boys, eight Ad Force, ninth Dark Knights and tenth Stalemate Shenanigans.-Marlon Bernardino-
