
PH chess genius Michael Jan Stephen R. Inigo to compete in Dumaguete FIDE Rated Age Group Chess Championships

MANILA---PH chess genius Michael Jan Stephen Rosalem Inigo of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental will showcase his talent in the NC64 FIDE Rated Age-Group Invitational Chess Championships 18 and under division on Saturday, August 19 at the Silliman Hall, Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
The 15-year-old Inigo, a grade nine student of Bayawan City Science and Technology Education Center (BCSTEC) in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, captivated the chess world by winning the gold in the 2019 Davao City Palarong Pambansa Elementary Boys Team Blitz event teaming up with Jerish John Velarde representing Region VII (CVIRAA).
Inigo and Velarde also won the Bronze Medal in the Elementary Boys Team Standard. He also took the Bronze Medal in the Elementary Boys Individual Blitz category.
This year, Inigo teamed up with Daniel Baylosis, representing Region VII - CVIRAA wound up 5th placers held in Marikina City.
"I hope to perform well in this event NC64 FIDE Rated Age- Group Invitational Chess Championships 18 and under division," said Inigo, who is also the 2019 Palawan National Batang Pinoy Bronze Medalist in the Blitz Category Elementary Boys side.
According to tournament director National Arbiter Antonio Martin Olendo, others competing are Christian Pelione, Vhea Ashley Silvano, Lance Nathaniel Orlina, Joemel Narzabal, Aeralyn Sinining, Chester O.Acuyong, Shawn Augustine Paril, Lennox P. Samson, Jecuambs Cuambot, Denise Nicole D. Noble and Einre Mar Abanco.
Meanwhile, Markley Partosa, Beau Adriel Pagayona, Iana Angela B. Sotaridona and Ellaine Summer Abanco are among the top contenders in the 13 and under division.
"The Silliman Hall was last used in a major chess event and that was in 2013- Palarong Pambansa, wherein Dumaguete City hosted the biggest annual DepEd spectacle," said National Arbiter Antonio Martin Olendo.
