MANILA---Everything is set for the staging of Philippine Sport Commission-Pilipinas Para Games (PPG) Chess Competition dubbed as Para Chess in Women Sports on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the Athlete's Dining Hall, Philsports Complex, Ultra, Pasig City.
Registration starts at 8:00 am to 9:30am.
The one-day event is inspired by the success of the country’s para pawn pushers on the international stage.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) commissioners Olivia “Bong” Coo and Walter Torres, Philippine Paralympic President Michael Barredo and National Council on Disability Affairs Executive Director Joniro Fradejas are expected to deliver their inspirational messages to the participants of the one-day affair.
Among the invited players in Visually Impaired, Partially Blind and Completely Blind and Physically Impaired categories are Abigail Magno, Alibelle Magno, Catherine Ramos, Glory Fe Nogaliza and Kyla Jane Langue of Metro Manila, Yolanda Pespes of Baguio City and Students of Special School Division of Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Para chess team national coach, National Master (NM) James Infiesto, however, clarified that only amateur players can participate in order to level the playing field.
“Members of the national Paralympic team are no longer allowed to play as we give chance to promising and mostly undiscovered talents from the different provinces in the country,” said Infiesto.
"Members in the Phil Para Chess Chess may play in the exhibition games that may be considered as Fun games as part of celebration of para women in sports," he added.-Marlon Bernardino
