Chester Neil Reyes wins 18th GMG Chess monthly online chess tournament

MANILA---Chester Neil Reyes won the 18th GMG Chess monthly online chess tournament on Thursday at Lichess Platform.

Reyes, Sahaya_16 on Lichess, finished with 92 points in 26 games for a win rate of 85 percent and performance rating of 2781 to win the event hosted by Thailand based International Chess Coach National Master Gerald Ferriol.

The online tournament had time control of three minutes and players must win as many games in one and half hours of play according to Ferriol, former top player of University of Santo Tomas chess team during his college days.

Reyes, who hails from Rodriguez,Rizal pocketed the PHP1,000 top purse for his efforts.

Jan Clifford Labog took the second spot with 78 points on 26 games and a win rate of 77 percent for a performance rating of 2752 and the PHP500 second place price.

In third place was National Master Mark Jay Bacojo who had 74 points followed National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca (58 points) at fourth and at fifth was Ronald Ruiz (57 points).

Rounding up the top 20 winners were Vince Angelo Medina (sixth), FM Christian Mark Daluz (seventh), Anatoly Pascua (eight), Cyril Felrod Telesforo (ninth), Tristan Jared Cervero (tenth), Keith Adriane Ilar (11th), NM Julius Gonzales (12th), Junmark Baldesimo (13th), Andres Bautista (14th), Lee Roi Palma (15th), Allan Gabriel Hilario (16th), Theseus Benitez (17th), John Ritter Belocura (18th), NM Julius Sinangote (19th) and Jeffrey Jimenez (20th).

Adjudged category winners were NM Ronald Llavanes (Top Senior), Vladimir Gonzales (Top PWD), Raiza Mae Locmayoan (Top Girl), WIM Kylen Joy Mordido (Top Women), Arca (Top U16), Vincent Brimbuela (Top GMG Fan and Top GMG Chess Sharer ).

Meanwhile, 13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. is leading the cast in the 19th GMG Chess monthly online chess tournament to be held on July 31 at Lichess Platform.-Marlon Bernardino-
