Querequere rules Misamis Occidental rapid chess championship

CLARIN, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL---Janin Dhrey Querequere ruled via tiebreak the Elementary Division of the Asenso Misamis Occidental National Open Chess Tournament at the Aya Hotel & Residences in Clarin, Misamis Occidental held last July 8 and 9, 2023.

Querequere, who hails from of Balingoan, Misamis Oriental, tied for first-second places with Ashzley Aya Nicole Paquinol of Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental 6.5 points apiece in the 15 minutes plus 3 seconds increment time control format Elementary Division backed up by provincial government headed by Misamis Occidental Governor Atty. Henry S. Oaminal Sr., in cooperation with Ozamis City Mayor Atty. Henry F. Oaminal Jr., Congressman Sancho Fernando F. Oaminal and the newly created Asenso Misamis Occidental Federated Chess Association.

With the highest tiebreak points, Querequere took the title while Paquinol finished second.

"Thank you so much to those who believed, to those who helped and to those who never gave up on me," said Querequere.

Rounding up the top 10 winners were Alberth Balase of Lopez Jaena (third), Uzziah Del Mundo of Pagadian City (fourth), Aron Pitos of Oroqueta City (fifth), Meghael Gregoire Mondia of Tangub City (sixth), Ruy Lopez of Pagadian City (seventh), Philipp Samonte II of Pagadian City (eight), Mark John Paul Uy of Pagadian City (ninth) and Keith Khian Salvia of Lanao del Norte (tenth).
Meanwhile, Sean Kenneth Cogonon of Cebu City topped the High School Division with 6.5 points followed by Lyn Getubig of Natumolan, Misamis Oriental, Samantha Trish Balquin of Cagayan de Oro City, Lj Getubig of Natumolan, Misamis Oriental and Luke Symon Lozada of Cebu City who totes 6.0 points each.

Rounding up the top 10 winners were Grace Galunod of Tangub City (sixth), Dominic Carl Gumisad of Tangub City (seventh), Kattrina Lim of Ozamis City (eight), Jomar Anhao of Tangub City (ninth) and RJ Bargayo of Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur (tenth).-Marlon Bernardino-
