
AQ Prime Sports Chess Talents FM Christian Mark Daluz bags chess title

PASIG CITY---Fide Master Christian Mark Daluz captured the AQ Prime Stream FIDE Standard Open Chess Tournament (2399 and below) in stunning fashion by winning his first five assignments at the Robinsons Metro East in Pasig City Sunday, July 2.
The 21-year-old Daluz, the latest member of AQ Prime Talents, who won his first five matches, drew with National Master Mark Jay Bacojo with the black pieces in the sixth and final round.
He finished with 5.5 points on five wins against one draw in six outings to bring home a PHP10,000 cash prize plus an elegant trophy courtesy of AQ Prime Proprietor/President/Atty. Fide Master Aldwin Alegre.
"The event is aimed at developing good thinkers through the understanding of chess strategies and tactics, improving the logical abilities and rational thinking and reasoning of the participants, and instilling a sense of self-confidence, self-worth and camaraderie," said AQ Prime proprietor and president Atty. Fide Master Aldwin Alegre.
Daluz scored victories over Fide Master Adrian Pacis in the first round, National Master Edmundo Gatus in the second round, Fide Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca in the third round, Jerome Villanueva in the fourth round, Kevin Arquero in the fifth and penultimate round before halving the point with NM Bacojo in the last round.
"It was a very good performance and I want to dedicate the victory to my family, to my UST coach Grandmaster candidate/International Master Ronald Dableo and to AQ Prime Proprietor/President/Atty. Fide Master Aldwin Alegre," said Daluz, a 2nd Year College Financial Management Student from the University of the Santo Tomas playing under the guidance of UST coach Grandmaster candidate/International Master Ronald Dableo.
Arca, Bacojo and Marc Kevin Labog finished the tournament with similar 4.5 points while Arena Grandmaster Robert Suelo Jr., Arena Grandmaster Jethro Dino Aquino and Fide Master Noel dela Cruz have identical 4.0 points.
Rounding up to the top 10-circle with 3.5 points apiece are Arquero (8th), NM Gatus (9th) and Kevin Mirano (10th).
Meanwhile, Chester Neil Reyes topped the 2000 and below category.
Reyes wound up with 5.5 points in the six round tournament, the same output of Angele Tenshi Biete (2nd), Jhulo Goloran (3rd), Mark Gerald Reyes (4th) and Stephen Manzanero (5th).
The final ranking were based on their total accumulated tie-break points.
Rounded off the top ten with 5.0 points are John Ernie Maraan (6th), Oscar Joseph Cantela (7th), Freddie Talaboc (8th), National Master Al-Basher "Basty" Buto (9th) and Lorenzo Aaron Cantela (10th).
The two-day (July 1 and 2) tournament is sponsored by AQ Prime proprietor and president Atty. Fide Master Aldwin Alegre and being held under the auspices of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).-Marlon Bernardino
