AQ Prime Stream FIDE Standard Open Chess Tournament: Daluz beats Arca, shares lead

ASIG CITY---Fide Master Christian Mark Daluz downed Fide Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca to gain a share of the lead in the third round of the AQ Prime Stream FIDE Standard Open Chess Tournament at the Robinsons Metro East in Pasig City over the weekend.

The victory was Daluz's third as he joined Jerome Villanueva at the helm.

Villanueva, on the other hand, toppled National Master Mark Jay Bacojo.

"I hope to do well in this event and gained some elo rating points," said Daluz, top player of University of Santo Tomas chess team, and a newly-member of AQ Prime Sports.

Earlier, Daluz nipped Fide Master Adrian Ros Pacis and National Master Edmundo Gatus, respectively while Villanueva defeated Arena Grandmaster Jethro and International Master Barlo Nadera, in order.

Reigning Asian Senior champion (over 65 category) International Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad beat Carlos Edgardo Garma. He now has a total of 2.5 points to share the 3rd to 4th places with Kevin Arquero, drew with International Master Cris Ramayrat.
The event, backed up by AQ Prime Proprietor/President Atty. Aldwin Alegre under the auspices of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, offers a top purse of P10,000.

In the 2000 and below category, National Master Jasper Faeldonia crushed Clarence Lagac to led the huge group of 3 pointers that includes National Master Bob Jones Liwagon, Mark James Marcellana, Angele Tenshi Biete, Errenz Denisson Calitisin, National Master Al-Basher "Basty" Buto, Freddie Talaboc, Chester Neil Reyes, John Ernie Maraan, Jovert Valenzuela, Jan Lei Kian Rosaupan, Oscar Joseph Cantela, Jhulo Goloran Yuri Lei Paraguya, Stephen Manzanero and Mark Gerald Reyes.-Marlon Bernardino-
