JOEPHER “El Gwapito” Montano of Negros Occidental arrived Tuesday in Thailand from Dubai to fight for WBO Oriental welterweight title.

The fight is set on June 29 against Muhammad “Mehsud” Bilal of Pakistan at the Spaceplus Bangkok RCA in Bangkok.

“I've trained well, I'm sure my opponent will have a good fight,” said the 27-year-old Montano.

Montano, who is based in Dubai, has already had two successful fights this year.

He first won a majority decision against Baishabo “Destroyer” Nasiyiwula of China last February 4 at VIC MMA Gym in Dubai.

Montano then retired Khashaiar Ghassemi of Iran in 6th round last March 30 to win the Asian Boxing Federation welterweight title at the Spacebar Bangkok.

Bilal, on the other hand, stopped Muhammad Luqman in the 3rd round last January 1, 2023 in Karachi.

Montano arrived with Coach Jun Padriquez together with undefeated Ege Arin Konuk of Turkey and Gwel Jefter Shunjonyu of Cameroon.

Konuk will face Manish of India for the WBC Asian Silver lightweight title while Shunjonyu will fight Kushal Nandkishor Vyas of India.

Montano has 15 wins with 13 knockouts against 5 loses and 2 draws while Bilal has 11 wins, 3 loses, 1 draw with 9 knockouts.

The boxing event, dubbed as the “Way of the Champions” is promoted by Supanat Chanram, Baris Erdogan of Tunal Academy and Brico Santig of Highland Boxing Team.
