MANILA---After their twin wins on Sunday against India and Chinese-Taipei, the RP Blu Boys had it tough on Day 2 at the Men's Softball Asia Cup 2023 held in Kochi, Japan on Monday.
The day commenced with a tough match against Singapore, where the Filipino team gave it their all. Despite falling behind early in the game, with Singapore leading 7-0 in the 1st inning, the RP Blu Boys demonstrated resilience and managed to score three run batted-ins and an impressive inside the park home run. However, Singapore ultimately emerged victorious with a 7-5 scoreline.
In their second and final game of the day, the RP Blu Boys confronted the reigning champions, Japan. Despite their unwavering determination and passion for the game, the Japanese team proved to be dominant, overpowering the Filipino team with a commanding 7-0 win.
Reflecting on the day's events, Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President Jean Henri Lhuillier said: "While it was, undoubtedly, a challenging turn of events for us and the team, we remain hopeful and are now more determined than ever to bounce back from these setbacks and secure victories in our upcoming matches."
The Philippine team's next match will be against Hong Kong on Tuesday, June 27, at 9:00 am.
The team is composed of John Israel Antonio, Jerome Bacarisas, Leo Barredo, Denmark Bathan, Melvin De Castro, Lyonas De Leon, Juliuz Dela Cruz, Mark Janzen Gaspi, Francis Generoso, John Norwen Lucas, Efril Ian Mercado, Micheal Pagkaliwagan, Reagan Parco, Gerone Riparir, Justine John Rosales, and Kenneth Torres with Jasper Cabrera and Isidro Abella as coaches.-Marlon Bernardino-
