AQ Prime FIDE Standard Open Chess tourney set for for July 1

PASIG CITY---The cream of the crop in PH chess will once again test each other’s mettle through the AQ Prime FIDE Standard Open Chess Tournament slated on July 1 and 2 at the Robinsons Metro East, Pasig City.

A total of P70,000 in cash prize will be given away to the winners of the 6-round Swiss competition spearheaded by AQ Prime Proprietor/President Atty. Aldwin Alegre.

The champion for the 2001 to 2399 FIDE Standard Rating will take home P10,000, while the second to fifth placers will pocket P8,000, P6,000, P4,000, and P2,500, respectively. The sixth to 10th will receive P2,000, P1,500, P1,000, P1,000 and P1,000, in order.

The winner for the 2000 and Below will get P10,000, while the second to fourth will earn P8,000, P6,000, and P4,000. The fifth to 10th will receive P500 apiece.

There will also be special prizes of P1,500 for the top 55 years old and above and for the top PWD.

The top 2 (12 years old and below players birthyear 2011), top 2 (13 to 15 years old players birthyear 2008-2010), and top 2 (16 to 18 years old players birthyear 2005-2007), on the other hand, will claim digital chess clock.

“IN promoting chess, there's no better way than developing the sport at the grassroots level with the help of AQ Prime,” said Atty. Alegre, former varsity chess player of Emilio Aguinaldo College during his College days.

"It is important to see sports as an opportunity to get to know more chess athletes,” he added.

Among the early entries are International Masters (IM's) Jose Efren Bagamasbad, Angelo Young, Chito Garma, Rolando Nolte, Barlo Nadera, Chris Ramayrat, Ricardo de Guzman, Ronald Bancod, Woman International Master Marie Antoinette San Diego, Fide Masters (FM's) David Elorta, Carlo Edgardo Garma, Robert Suelo Jr., Adrian Ros Pacis, Noel dela Cruz, Christian Mark Daluz, Christopher Castellano and National Masters (NMs) Edmundo Gatus, Jerome Balico, Nicomedes Alisangco, Lloyd Rubio, Prince Mark Aquino, Jasper Faeldonia, Voltaire Marc Paraguya , Candidate Master Genghis Imperial and Woman National Master Antonella Berthe Racasa.
