AJ ?Bazooka? Banal's WBA super flyweight title fight against anama's Rafael "El Torito" Concepcion will be held at the Cebu Coliseum on July 26.
ABS-CBN Vice President for Sports Peter Musngi told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that details of the contract for the eagerly-awaited title fight which is a partnership between the Philippines pre-eminent broadcast network, the respected ALA Gym and Golden Boy Promotions have been finalized and the contract will be signed tomorrow (Wednesday) with youthful Michael Aldeguer who has assumed the mantle of his father in the boxing business.
Concepcion is a 25 year old with a record of 10-2-1 with 6 knockouts. He is an aggressive fighter who likes to go for the body and can take a punch although he has a tendency to leave himself open while moving forward. Concepcion is an orthodox fighter and not a southpaw as reported earlier. .
In his last fight on March 27, Concepcion scored a third round TKO over Jean Piero Perez while Banal is comingoff a fourth round TKO win over WBC No.2 rated Caril Herrera of Uruguay at the Araneta Coliseum last April 6.
Banal is currently rated No. 1 by the IBF, No. 2 by the WBO, No. 3 by the WBA and No. 5 by the WBC. Concepcion is ranked No. 6 by the WBA and No. 10 by the WBC.
Filipino fight fans will get a chance to size up Concepcion when Viva Sports telecasts brief highlights of his 4th round knockout of Ricardo Molina to win the Central American Boxing Federation title and his tenth round unanimous decision over Jean Pierro Perez on the top rated weekly boxing show "The Main Event" on Sunday at 9:00 p.m. over IBC 13.
