2 Team PH athletes win

MANILA---Two Filipino woodpushers won in their respective games during the Philippines versus Estonia friendly online chess match.

Team PH chessers Arena International Master Chester "The Coach" Caminong and Candidate Master Genghis "The Last Conqueror" Imperial defeated their respective opponents with impressive performances being held thru Lichess Platform last Monday, May 1, 2023.

Caminong (Elo 2041), coach of San Beda Alabang toppled Woman Fide Master Trinn “Queen’s Gambit” Narva (Elo 1982), 5-1, while Imperial, one of the top player's of PCAP Manila Indios Bravos edged Veski "Mr. Peski" Rauno (Elo 1643), 3-2.

Meanwhile, Sportswriter/Radio commentator National Master Almario Marlon "Memoryman" Bernardino Jr. (Elo 2035) was beaten by Nikita "Estonian Gunner" Rotsagov (Elo 2228), 5-3, in the main event of the evening.

Bernardino had a chance to level the count at 3.5-3.5 all, however committed a blunder in the 32nd moves allowing the Estonian player a 4.5-2.5 comfortable lead in the first to win five points format. The game ended into a draw in the following round that resulted in a 5-3 victory in favor of Nikita.
The 10 minutes plus five second increment rapid time control format, supported by Europe based/Sportsman Kim Zafra in cooperation with Balinas Family and Mr. Richard Cornell Manzano of Chess Lovers PH and organized by Bayanihan Chess Club.
