Only one of them will be advancing to the 2022-2023 Western Conference Finals and potentially to the NBA Finals but this series has the makings of a dream confrontation between two of the most successful and popular teams in the recent years.
The Golden State Warriors hours ago won its series which went the full seven games 4-3 versus a surprisingly tough Sacramento Kings 120-100 with Stephen Curry scoring a game 7 high of 50 points to will his team to victory.
The distant neighbor Los Angeles Lakers have earlier clinched their place in the semis by crushing number two seed Memphis Grizzlies in six games, winning their fourth via a 125-85 blow out with Lebron James and Anthony Davis powering the team after placing just seventh and surviving a rigorous play-in against another surprising Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Lakers vs Warriors series starts Tuesday (Wednesday here) at the Chase Center in San Francisco where the Warriors holding homecourt advantage and will also host Game 2 and possibly Games 5 and 7 if necessary. The Lakers will host Games 3 and 4 and 6 if necessary at the Crypto.com Arena, formerly Staples Center, in Los Angeles.
This is the first time that two California teams will be fighting out in the Conference semis. Though the Warriors only took a bus ride in its series against Sacramento, the series against the Lakers will entail a short plane ride it has been reported.
The series likewise renewed rivalry between James and the Warriors that began when he was still with the Miami Heat whom he led to victory over Steph Curry and company in the 2013-2014 NBA Finals and ended when his new team the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Warriors in the 2014-2015 Finals, giving Golden State the first of its now three championships in the later 2010s through early 2020s.
The Lakers then already starring James and Davis last won the NBA Finals in the extended 2019-2020 season that was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic winning over the Miami Heat 4-2. The Warriors finished dead last that season. But gone now are the other stalwarts of that champion squad like Rajon Rondo, Kantaveous Caldwell Pope, Alex Caruso, Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Javale McGee and Danny Green among others who are now playing with other teams. In their place come Dennis Schroeder, Rui Hachimura, D' Angelo Russell and a few more promising players.
The Warriors are the defending NBA champions having beaten the Boston Celtics 4-2 in the 2021-2022 Finals. They still count on veterans Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins and sophomore Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga and a few other players who could also deliver.
Abangan kung sino ang magwawagi sa dull.
