Pangasinan Invitational Executive Chess Cup on May 21

PLAYERS from all parts of Luzon will compete for honors when the 3rd edition of Pangasinan Invitational Executive Chess Cup will be held on May 21 at the SM Dagupan Event Center in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

Lawyer Reddy C. Balarbar said chessers from Pangasinan, nearby provinces and the National Capital Region will see action in the Executive FIDE 2200 rapid tournament.

"This is our third edition and so far the biggest Executive tournament in Dagupan City, Pangasinan. We are looking forward to seeing a lot of participants," said Lawyer Reddy C. Balarbar, club legal adviser.

He said that holding tournaments is a fulfillment on his part being a chess player himself.

"Chess is my past time," he added.

Club President Engineer Cayetano D. Garcia, for his part, said that Lawyer Rodolfo Enrique Rivera, Dr. Fred Paez, Robert Racasa and Arnel Espiritu will participate in the said Executive chessfest.

Cash prizes await winners with the champion taking home P10,000 and a trophy while the runner-up will receive P7,000 and the third-placer will settle for P5,000. The next three chessers will pocket P3,000, P1,500 and P1,000 while the seventh to to 12th placers will get P500 each.

Registration is also ongoing. Fee is P350 while On Site registration is P400.

The one-day event, organized by Hermano Chess Club in cooperation with SM Prime Holdings Inc. and Pangasinan Association of Chess Executives and Retirees (PACER).
