Chess players will start their season with a chess clinic that gets underway Sunday in Olongapo City that is being organized by Chess Center of Excellence in partnership with Ian the Christian Academy and Olongapo City SM Central.

The Chess Center of Excellence opted to start the year with an activity aimed at spreading chess to the masses by teaching children and adults on the basic tenets of the game to ensure that more people learn and embrace the game. This is one of Chess Center of Excellence's major objective doing a Chess Clinic in partnership with SM Central and Bayanihan Chess Club.

It is expected to be a massive chess festival that will be helpful for beginners, amateurs and players as the event will be spiced with powerful interactive and useful powerpoint presentations on the game, its benefits and how to improve.

“This is part of Chess Center of Excellence Chess Clinic’s program to help young players to learn chess and achieve their dreams of becoming a grandmaster who could represent the country in major international events,” said Professional Chess Trainers Association of the Philippines National Instructor Joel Villanueva.

“This maiden chess program is made possible with the support from Olongapo LGU and Sports Office as well SM Central Mall thru the marketing head Mr. Benedick Lucero, Mall Manager Mr. Ariel Gyran Ferrer and Bayanihan Chess Club,” said Villanueva, a certified FIDE National Arbiter.

Among the noted players who have volunteered to be part of the undertaking are International Master Ronald Bancod, Fide Master Christopher Castellano, National Master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. and Jason Rojo.
