Marticio seizes solo lead in Mayor Darel Dexter T. Uy National Age Group Chess Championships Grand Finals U16 Girls division

JERSEY MARTICIO overpowered Lyn Getubig to grab the solo lead after three rounds in the Mayor Darel Dexter T. Uy National Age Group Chess Championships Grand Finals U16 Girls division in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte Wednesday.

The Cabuyao City, Laguna bet Marticio played superbly with the white pieces to clinch the win over Getubig from Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

The win gave Marticio the solo lead with 3.0 points, a half point ahead of Sara Dalagan of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental with 2.5 markers.

"I hope to do well in this event and gain some elo rating points," said the 15 years old Marticio, a Grade 10 student of Pulo National High School, playing under the tutelage of Arena Grandmaster Dr. Fred Paez.

Marticio also beat Daren Dela Cruz of Dasmariñas City, Cavite in the first round and Nicole Rosales of Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte in the second round.

Meanwhile, Mark Jay Bacojo and Christian Gian Karlo Arca, both from Dasmariñas City, Cavite are showing the way in the U18 Boys division who totes 2.5 points apiece.

Trailing by half a point are Jeremy Marticio of Cabuyao City, Laguna, Angele Tenshi Biete of Las Piñas City, Clark Kaeron Kwan of Bacoor City, Cavite and Franklin Loyd Andes of Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte.

According to NCFP CEO GM Jayson O. Gonzales that the winner in each category will represent the country in the upcoming 21st ASEAN + Age Group Chess Championship to be held on June 17 to 27 in Bangkok, Thailand.-Marlon Bernardino-
