PH bet Kim Yutangco Zafra finishes sixth in Estonia Open chess tilt

FILIPINO bet Kim Yutangco Zafra finished in a four-way tie for third to sixth places at the close of the Tallinn Weekly Open chess tournament in Tallinn, Estonia over the weekend.

Zafra had 5.0 points to forge a tie with Sergei Saraikin, Flipp Obonin and Aaron Rajandu of Estonia. However, after the tie break points was applied, Zafra finished in sixth place.

"It was really an uphill battle and although I didn't make it on top, I was still able to tie for 3rd place," said Tallinn, Estonia based Zafra, a Math Specialist.

Woman FIDE Master Sofia Blokhin of Estonia won the tournament after scoring a total of perfect 7.0 points, full point ahead with solo second place Grandmaster Igor Shvyrjov of Estonia with 6.0 points.

It can be recalled that Zafra won the Tallinna MK kiirturniiride sari SÜGIS`2022 (VI etapp) Chess Championship 2022 held in Tallinn, Estonia last November 26, 2022.

The Europe based Zafra collected 6.5 points on account of six wins and one draw in seven outings in this FIDE rated event, applying 15 minutes plus 3 seconds increment.

Zafra also competed in the 2022 FIDE World Amateur Championships which took place in Malta from October 20-30, 2022.-Marlon Bernardino-
