
Marticio rebounds in National Age Group Chess Championships elims

TAGAYTAY CITY---Jersey Marticio of Cabuyao City, Laguna beat Woman National Master Antonella Berthe "Tonelle" Racasa of Mandaluyong City In Round 5 to post his fourth win in five outings late Saturday and bounced back in contention in the Vice Governor Athena Bryana D. Tolentino National Age Group Chess Championships Eliminations at the Tagaytay International Convention Center here.
With the win, Marticio climbed into a share of 1st to 3rd places in the Under 16 Girls division. The 15-year-old Marticio, a Grade 10 pupil of Pulo National High School, earlier lost to Sara Dalagan of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental in Round 4.
Also with 4.0 points are Dalagan and Maryss Annxeniel Caldoza of Imus City, Cavite.
Dalagan split the points with Caldoza in Round 5. Caldoza also beat Geraldine Mae Camarines of General Trias City, Cavite in Round 4.
Meanwhile, John Cyrus Borce of Zamboanga City defeated Ruelle Canino of Cagayan de Oro City in Round 4 then drew with Allan Gabriel Hilario of Pulilan, Bulacan in Round 5 to remain on top in the Under 16 Boys category.
Borce raised his total to 4.5 points, half-a-point ahead of Hilario and Oscar Joseph Cantela of General Trias City, Cavite who totes 4.0 points apiece.
Hilario bested Yuri Lei Paraguya of General Trias City, Cavite in Round 4. Cantela, on the other hand, toppled Davin Sean Romualdez of Cainta, Rizal in Round 4 and Eowyn Jullado of Tayabas City, Quezon in Round 5.
The 3-day activity is hosted by the province of Cavite and Tagaytay City in collaboration with Philippine Olympic Committee and Philippine Sports Commission under the auspices of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines headed by Chairman and President Congressman Prospero "Butch"Arreza Pichay Jr. draws a participation of 360 young woodpushers, the cream of crop of young chessers from the different parts of the country with tournament director, FST/GM Jayson Gonzales.-Marlon Bernardino-
