
Marticio grabs lead in National Age Group Chess Championships

TAGAYTAY CITY---Jersey Marticio of Cabuyao City, Laguna scored back-to-back wins to wrest the solo lead in the 3rd round of the Vice Governor Athena Bryana D. Tolentino National Age Group Chess Championships Eliminations U16 Girls at the Tagaytay International Convention Center on Saturday here.
The 15-year-old Marticio, a Grade 10 pupil of Pulo National High School, outsmarted Kayla Lorraine Aurelio of Valenzuela City to notch 3.0 points.
Marticio remained unbeaten in this tough tournament, draws a participation of 360 young woodpushers, the cream of crop of young chessers from the different parts of the country.
The 3 day activity is hosted by the province of Cavite and Tagaytay City in collaboration with Philippine Olympic Committee and Philippine Sports Commission under the auspices of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines headed by Chairman and President Congressman Prospero "Butch"Arreza Pichay Jr.
Earlier, Marticio beat Geraldine Mae Camarines of General Trias City, Cavite in Friday's second round.
Woman National Master Antonella Berthe "Tonelle" Racasa of Mandaluyong City defeated Yaneah Sofia Morada of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan in Round 2 then split the points with Maryss Annxeniel Caldoza of Imus City, Cavite to lead the group of 2.5 pointers in the likes of Caldoza, Sara Dalagan of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and Shaniah Francine Tamayo of City of San Jose Del Monte of Bulacan.
Dalagan nipped Kate Nicole Ordizo in Round 2 then drew with Tamayo in Round 3. Tamayo bested Jewel Mae Aguilar in Round 2.-Marlon Bernardino-
