Gervonta Davis announced on his Twitter Friday that the fight with Ryan Garcia is set for April 22 at a venue still to be determined in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both camps worked on the past few weeks finalizing the terms of their contracts and now one of the most sought-after high-profile fights in world boxing is now finally scheduled.

The proposed sites are MGM Grand Garden Arena or T-Mobile Arena. But the Las Vegas Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium is another option. They will face each other at a contracted catch weight of 136 pounds in a 12-round non-title fight.

They agreed to fight last November, but instead Davis took one tune-up fight. He knocked out Hector Luis Garcia on Jan. 8. Davis faced undefeated WBA super featherweight champion Héctor García at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The fight was a slam-bang action until Davis hit a solid straight left early in the eighth round.

Davis continuously connected with his left hand, hurting García. The latter was astray when he returned to his corner, and complained about his distorted eyesight. The fight was then stopped, with Tank declared winner by eighth-round corner retirement.

Garcia did not fight a tune-up, and he has not fought since July 2022, when he knocked out two-time world champion Javier Fortuna in Texas. KingRy dropped Fortuna thrice en route to a sixth-round KO. Garcia now has a professional record of 23-0 with 19 wins by knockout.

Davis is a deadly puncher with 26 knockout wins on his immaculate 28-0 record. He has held multiple world championships in three weight classes, including the present WBA (Regular) lightweight champion, the former IBF super featherweight champion, the former WBA (Super) super featherweight champ twice and the former WBA (Regular) super lightweight champ.

Garcia is age 24 and from Los Alamitos, California, U.S.A. Davis is age 28 from Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A. Davis is just 5-foot-5 and Garcia will enjoy an advantage of five inches in height and three inches in reach.

Garcia was once the WBC interim lightweight champion. He was proposed to fight against Filipino southpaw Mercito Gesta on January 28. But Garcia decided to skip that match and prepared himself for the more dangerous fight against Davis.

A conflict over the rematch clause had threatened to cancel the fight, but that disagreement was resolved earlier this month after PBC consented that Golden Boy would serve as the lead promoter in a rematch if Garcia wins.

Only Davis can exercise the rematch clause if in case he loses, according to sources. Usually, losing fighters are given 30 days to exercise their right to an immediate return bout. It was reported that Davis will earn slightly more in the first fight and is the betting favorite.
