MANILA---The 7th Edition Kamatyas FIDE Rated Invitational Rapid Chess Tournament dubbed as “Pawn Promotion” is set to kick off on Saturday at SM Sucat, Parañaque. The list of players has been completed and confirmed as the slots are limited. These series of tournaments are organized by no other than International Master Roderick Nava – arguably the most famous pinoy chess blogger in the Philippines today in partnership with Mr. David Almirol, patron and brains of Kamatyas Chess Club.

The list of player include prominent names such as Grandmaster Darwin Laylo, International Master Ronald Dableo, International Master Daniel Quizon, International Master Michael Concio Jr., Woman International Master Kylen Joy Mordido, National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca and National Master Mark Jay Bacojo of Dasmariñas Chess Academy.

"I am supercharged and well-motivated as I am coming from a very sweet victory from my recent tournament where I got my 2nd GM norm," said Quizon, the pride of Dasmariñas Chess Academy, playing under the patronage of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr., Mayor Jenny Barzaga and tutelage of National Coach FIDE Master Roel Abelgas.

Quizon recently topped the prestigious international tournament AQ Prime ASEAN Invitational Chess Championship 2023, which earned him his 2nd GM norm requirement inching closer to become our country’s next GM. To spice up the occasion TV actor Mr. Jao Mapa graced this event with his presence. Exciting times indeed for Philippine Chess.-Marlon Bernardino-
