MANILA---READY and confident. That’s how the Magic Mandaluyong Tiger's team, headed by Grandmaster Darwin Laylo and National Master Michael Gotel, described themselves in the upcoming Professional Chess Association of the Philippines team tournament set on February 18.
“The experience of GM Darwin Laylo will be a big help,” said Magic Mandaluyong Tigers team owner lawyer Nikki De Vega.
“I like our chances now at PCAP,” said Magic Mandaluyong Tigers co-team owner Atty.Krisanto Karlo Nicolas, who predicted that the Magic Mandaluyong Tiger's team will certainly perform well.
Laylo, who is fresh from winning the Philippine National Chess Championship Grand Finals last Monday, February 6 held in Malolos City Hall in Bulacan, will man the top board, followed by Gotel on board two, Woman National Master Cherry Ann Mejia on board three (lady player), Rolando Yutuc on board four (senior player), Marco Jay Mabasa on board five, John Michael Magpily on board six and Paul Sanchez on board seven as their homegrown players.
"I'm happy for winning the Philippine National Chess Championship Grand Finals. I wish that my luck would remain the same with my upcoming stint in PCAP for Magic Mandaluyong Tigers," said the 42-year-old Laylo. It can be recalled that he got his first national crown since in 2006.
Also seeing in action are Christine Muli, Raul Damuy, Ricardo Jimenez, Philip Simon Din and National Master Giovanni Mejia.
“The other members of the Magic Mandaluyong Tiger's team are also ready to do battle", said Team Manager Von Carlson Francisco.
"It will be tough but with our present lineup and with the current form of our top board player GM Darwin Laylo, fresh from topping the National championship, our chances remains bright!" said Team Coach Lourecel Hernandez Ecot.-Marlon Bernardino-
