The opponent of featherweight prospect Michael Farenas who is a prot?g? of WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa has finally been identified as Fermin De Los Santos who has a record of 10-11-1 with 7 knockouts.

The information was relayed to Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today by Penalosa who earlier appeared upset over Farenas traveling to Aguascalientes, Mexico without knowing who his opponent was for the May 17th Top Rank presentation of "Latin Fury."

Penalosa was concerned that Farenas may fall victim to the same substitution suffered by Rodel Mayol who was supposed to fight a journeyman but at the last minute was informed by agent Michael Koncz that he was to fight undefeated Adrian Hernandez and was knocked out in four rounds.. Hernandez currently has a record of 13-0 with 11 knockouts.

Although Farenas? opponent has more defeats than wins, the one noticeable fact about his record is that he?s never been stopped in 22 fights.

The hard-hitting Farenas is coming off a third round knockout of Baudel Cardenas in the undercard of the rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez last March 15 at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Farenas has an impressive record of 20-2-2 with 18 knockouts.
