
WGM Frayna posts 2nd draw in Kazakhstan; Asuela, Labog secure 1-2 finish in Singapore

MANILA---Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna of the Philippines scored her second draw in the 2022 FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championship Rapid Open in Almaty City, Kazakhstan on Monday, Dec. 26.
Frayna and Olga Druzhinina of Russia agreed to a draw in the fourth round.
The former Far Eastern University chess team mainstay earlier lost to Grandmaster Valentina Gunina of Russia in the first round, then toppled Woman Fide Master Elnaz Kaliakhmet of Kazakhstan in the second round but yielded to Woman International Master Shri B Savitha of India in the third round.
The top player of Philippine Army chess team Frayna was playing with International Master Inna Gaponenko of Ukraine as of presstime in the 11 Rounds Swiss System, 15 minutes 10 seconds increment time control format.
Backed up by Mr. Van Lanuza, Mr. Rafael Lean Ansay, Engr. Mark Oliver Ingcad and Mr. Jose Padu delos Santos of Papadu Sportswear, Fide Master Ellan Asuela and International Master Eric Labog Jr. of the Philippines secured a 1-2 finish in the KCFAP Absolute Chess 2022 which held last December 23 to 25, 2002 in Peace Centre, Singapore.
The Bacolod City pride Asuela took first to receive Singapore 2,000 dollars while the Immaculada Concepcion College, Caloocan student Labog wound up second to go home with Singapore 1,400 dollars.
Rounding up to the top 10 were International Master Irwanto Sadikin of Indonesia (third), Fernanda Agus Saputra Pribadi of Indonesia (fourth), Fide Master Syarif Mahmud of Indonesia (fifth), FM Nelson "Elo" Mariano III of the Philippines (sixth), Aris TLS of Indonesia (seventh), Rege Vijay of Singapore (eight), Adharsh V of India (ninth) and Kiu Sen of Indonesia (tenth).-Marlon Bernardino-
