Oncita pockets 5th gold in Batang Pinoy

MANILA---Sumer Justine F. Oncita of Pasig City collected his fifth gold medal in the final day of the chess competition at the Philippine Sports Commission-Batang Pinoy National Championships on Wednesday, December 21, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

Oncita and Gabriel Ryan D. Paradero combined forces to tally a total of 7.5 points and topped the 13 Under Male Batang Pinoy Rapid Team Category, beating the tandem of Gabriel M. Siano and Mark Gabriel Usman of Laguna who had 7.0 points and the pair of Keith Adriane I. Ilar and Cassey Miguel F. Tabamo of Malaybalay City with 6.0 points.

"I'm so happy for winning my fifth gold in the 13 Under Male Batang Pinoy Rapid Team Category. Thanks also to my team mate Gabriel Ryan D. Paradero for his efforts," said the 12-year-old Oncita, a grade 6 pupil of Manggahan Elementary School.

Oncita earlier ruled the Standard Individual category, Standard Team category, Blitz Individual category and Blitz Team category.
Oncita, who has been training under Pasig Grassroots Program of Mayor Vico Sotto, Pasig City Council and Pasig City Coaches and Trainors spearheaded by Franco Camillo, Marguel Soria, Gerry Nudalo, Von Carlson Francisco, Expedito Bolico , Expedito Bolico Jr. and Napico Chess Club led by Pres.
