MANILA---Mindmovers Team A reigned supreme in the recent Maharlika Pilipinas Chess League's Manny Pacquiao International Open Chess Festival Side Event (Team 3 on 3).

Backed up by Mr. Van Lanuza, Mr. Rafael Ansay and Engr. Mark Oliver Ingcad, the Mindmovers Team A, composed by International Master Eric Labog Jr., Jay Troy Teves and Jan Clifford Labog, scored 16.0 match points to capture the crown at the Family Country Hotel Function Room in General Santos City on Sunday, Dec. 19.

Actually, Ligon Sports Betting-Army of Mr. Francis Ligon also tallied similar 16.0 markers.

With better tie-break points, Mindmovers Team A wound up first after edging Ligon Sports Betting-Army led by National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca, Christian Arroyo and Kevin Mirano.

According to Maharlika Pilipinas Chess League President International Master Hamed Nouri, the top two teams, however will split the total prizes for first to second places amounting to P450,000—courtesy of boxing legend and former senator Manny Pacquiao.

In third place is Top Secret spearheaded by International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia, Vladmir Gonzales and Jian Carlo Rivera who had 14 match points and the P100,000 prizes for their efforts.
It shall be recalled that Mindmovers PH CC took the team title in Manny Pacquiao and Buena Viel Construction Chess Cup last month in Naga City.

The Maharlika Pilipinas Chess League (MPCL) headed by Nouri and Alex Dinoy organized the event backed by President Bong Bong Marcos, the NCFP, the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Rounding out the top 10 were Team Matehek (fourth), Mindmovers Team B (fifth), Team Gov. Ruel Pacquiao's Philippine Airforce Chess Team (sixth), UNASA Big Boys (seventh), Aqua Eternal 2 (eight), UC Chess Infinitum (ninth) and Romblon Chess Club (tenth).-Marlon Bernardino-
